Are you new to Running? Have you recently completed a Couch to 5k? Would you like to introduce your family to trail running and our friendly community of runners?
Discover Venture is a monthly guided trail run aimed at beginners, children and anyone who would like to join us for a 7k exploration of the beautiful Chilterns. The emphasis is on inclusion- everybody is welcome- all you need is your shoes!
What is Trail Running, and how does it differ from road running?
In our honest opinion, the biggest difference is that it’s more fun! Trail running means running off-road, so it might be on a mixture of footpaths, canal towpath, or even across fields and through woods. Running on trails means being close to nature, and aware of the terrain; so on a variety of different surfaces, with the views changing as the seasons change! It’s not about speed or pace, it’s about loving the feeling of running surrounded by extraordinary countryside.
I’m feeling intimidated! Should I be?
Absolutely not! Discover Venture is designed to guide people in that step from starting their running journey, to getting more confident running outside in the countryside. We are really excited at the opportunity of introducing you to the trails that we love, and to how much fun it is to explore and play on them. Running isn’t designed to be a chore or a punishment; trail running really is fun. It’s about learning what your body can do and getting back to playing in the woods; climbing over stiles or running through (or around!) muddy puddles.
Where and When?
9.30am 23/5/21 @ Berkhamsted Rail Station.
What is it?
This is a guided run of around around 8 km. One of our experienced team will lead you around some classic Chiltern countryside. There will be absolutely no pressure to run fast. No one will be left behind and we expect that all of our groups will complete the course with a mixture of running and walking.
Can I bring my children?
Children and teenagers are very welcome as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult and will be comfortable covering around 7km running and walking.
How much does it cost?
£10 adults, £5 children.
What can I expect?
A social guided trail run in a completely supported environment. We will show you where to go and help you with some new running skills along the way! All our events are fully risk assessed and COVID secure.
What do I need to bring?
Running Shoes- we recommend trail running shoes but really any trainers will do!
Running Kit- your normal running kit. Please take the weather into consideration- we would always encourage you to bring one extra layer- getting cold is miserable! Depending on the weather, it may be sensible to bring a waterproof or windproof layer, a hat and gloves.
Food and Drink.
Please bring a snack in case your energy levels need topping up. We recommend bringing 200-500ML of water too.
All our events will finish close to a Café or Coffee shop so there will be opportunities to refuel and swap stories at the end (As COVID guidance and regulations allow).
Toilets:
As we are running in the countryside, there will not be any Toilets available during the event. Options around the start and finish point will be made clear in the runner’s information email sent out in the week of the event.
